3M™ Paper Belt 966UZ uses 3M™ Ceramic Abrasive Grain to provide more sanding power than conventional abrasives and bonds it to an F-weight, Fullflex paper backing for effective sanding and finishing flat surfaces in woodworking applications.
F-weight is one of the heaviest, most rigid paper backings available and will achieve finer finishes than cloth backed belts in the same grade. The paper backing is ideal when frequent belt replacement is required and also provides smooth operation and durability. On the abrasive side, the ceramic abrasive surpasses conventional abrasives in high production environments for its aggressive cut, greater heat resistance, extremely long life, and finer finishing results. This belt also features 3M dust management technology that reduces static in the dust particles, allowing them to be pulled away more easily when coupled with an efficient dust collection system. To support desired finishing results, the belt ends are joined using an interlocking sine wave splice that promotes belt strength and resists hinging and splice fatigue. The splice travels smoothly over contact wheels and platens, minimizes chatter marks, and promotes smooth operation for consistent finishing results. Abrasive grain density for this belt series increases for each higher grade to offer the optimal balance between surface finish and load resistance; the higher the grade, the finer the finish. P-graded abrasive grains in 3M paper belts are screened to a finer tolerance than non-P-graded abrasives and produce a more uniform surface finish.3M™ Paper Wide & Flat Finishing Belt Belt 966UZ features 3M™ Ceramic Abrasive Grain. This abrasive exceeds conventional abrasives in durability, life, and cut-rate, offering greater throughput in less time and significant gains in productivity. 3M™ Ceramic Abrasive Grain is a ceramic mineral formed using a proprietary process to enhance toughness and hardness of the grain. It is chemically engineered with a unique "stay sharp" crystalline structure, which continually self-sharpens cutting edges on the surface of the belt, ensuring extended high performance in heavy-duty production applications. Additionally, less pressure is required for an effective cut, placing l
