Scotch-Brite Durable Flex Belts are easily identified by their purple backing, which uses aluminium oxide abrasive for a high cut-rate and strength over the lifetime of the belt. Aluminium oxide is a tough mineral that self-fractures in use, to continually create fresh cutting edges. Whereas traditional abrasives such as garnet quickly wear down with use. It’s widely used by industry professionals because of its cut rate and long life. It’s used for grinding, sanding and finishing for its hardness, strength low heat retention. Belt sanders work continuously without clogging because of small grooves in the abrasive that open as they go around the arc of the drive wheel – a distinct advantage compared with other discs and wheels which can clog and quickly become less efficient, depending on the material being worked.
