3M "preventables" software identifies avoidable and unnecessary care. The focus on "potentially preventable" events gives organizations actionable information to make improvements where they can have the greatest impact.

3M™ Population focused Preventables Software
3M's suite is the broadest set of "preventables" quality metrics available. It addresses the full spectrum of potentially preventable events (PPEs) from admissions to ancillary services. The classification models focus on potentially preventable events, not all negative events. They produce actionable results identifying hospitalizations, complications, ED visits and ancillary services that are "impactable," meaning interventions can have a measurable effect.
3M Preventables are appropriate for all patient populations and payer types, unlike Medicare measures for readmissions and complications. Because they are based on the same risk adjustment methodologies, they form a common, complementary measure set across disparate patient types and care setting.

The 3M Preventables suite includes:
3M™ Potentially Preventable Readmissions (PPR) Grouping Software
3M™ Potentially Preventable Complications (PPC) Grouping Software
3M™ Population focused Preventables (PFP) Software for identifying preventable hospital admissions, ED visits and ancillary services
As quality measures, 3M Preventables are useful for quality improvement and care management. Some 3M PPR and PPC metrics and reports are available in 3M™ 360 Encompass™ System, Consulting Services solutions, and our Population Health Management tools. The full software suite is available within 3M™ Core Grouping Software and 3M™ Grouper Plus Content Services to process large volumes of claims and export output data for use in other systems.
